Our 12-week approach
A clear path, with you every step.
Our signature child therapy process is 12 weekly child sessions over about 14 weeks in total, with parents alongside from the first intake to the closing session.
Your journey at a glance
12 weekly child sessions.
Or we keep going. Your roadmap may include more sessions, and that's okay.
Alongside: your Tuned In track. From intake through the closing session, and after, you go through the Tuned In process too: parenting courses, tools for home and Remi. Twelve weeks is our starting rhythm, not a finish line. If your child needs more time, we simply keep going together.
Parent intake
Parents meet the therapist first to share your child's story and set goals.
Weekly sessions
Parent check-ins and Tuned In happen alongside every week.
Mid-point check-in
Making sure the process is meeting your expectations.
Closing and roadmap
A treatment summary with themes, insights about your child, and a roadmap for what's next.
Why play therapy?
Play is the natural language of childhood.
In child-centered play therapy, the therapist follows your child's lead with warmth, attunement, and healthy boundaries, so healing can unfold at their pace. Progress can feel quieter and less linear than parents expect. Children often heal through relationship, repetition, and safety long before they can explain things in words.
Session formats
What can our weekly rhythm look like?
We create an individualized plan with each family in the first session. Common options:
Child 40 min, parent 15 min
Same day. Video or phone parent check-in.
Child 55 min, parent 30 min
Later that week or biweekly. Video or in-person parent check-in.
Child 40 min, parent 30 min
Later that week or biweekly. Video or in-person parent check-in.
Twice-weekly child sessions are occasionally possible when clinically appropriate and insurance allows.
Parent coaching
Why parent coaching is part of every plan.
Children do best when the adults around them feel supported too. Parent coaching helps you understand what your child's behavior may be communicating, respond in ways that support regulation and connection, and feel less alone in the hard moments.
Making the most of it
The more families put in, the more they get out.
Commit to weekly sessions, follow the structure, and when something comes up, reschedule within the same week when possible.
After 12 weeks
We are here for you for the long run.
Families can extend with new goals for another round to go deeper. Some return once a year, or at new developmental stages when new needs come up. We've known many kids for years.
Many families feel ready to step back after twelve weeks. Others need more time, and that's completely okay. At the closing session we'll make a roadmap together, which can include continuing therapy for as long as it's helpful.
Teens and adults
How the process adapts.
For teens
Teen therapy often begins with 12 weekly sessions to build rapport, then shifts into ongoing biweekly therapy. There's also a Tuned In course just for teens.
For adults
Adult therapy has no set timeline. Some adults choose to commit to 10 consistent weeks, with a beginning, middle, and end, alongside the Tuned In adult program.
Family stories
"The parent coaching helped me shift from reacting to responding."
