Child Therapy in Centennial
At the heart of our work is play, a child's most natural language. We use evidence-based play therapy methods that create space for genuine healing to take place, giving your child a way to express the big feelings and challenges that are hard to put into words.
We specialize in supporting emotional, sensitive, and gifted children who are experiencing big feelings like anger, sadness, or anxiety. (Wondering whether your child might be highly sensitive? You can take our highly sensitive child quiz here.)
We also have expertise in helping children process traumatic experiences and in supporting neurodivergent kids, including those with ADHD.
And because connection with you matters just as much, we partner closely with parents throughout the entire process, translating what we're learning from your child into practical insights that deepen your understanding of their emotional world and what they need most.
“I believe that therapy allows a child’s inner light to shine so that they can dismantle walls of shame and fear in order to continue to connect more deeply with themselves and with the loving people around them.”
- Sophie Schauermann, LCSW | Founder Rooted Rhythm Therapy
What Sets Our Approach Apart:
We work closely with parents. A child's relationship with their caregivers is the most important thing, so we keep you closely involved every step of the way. We take care to translate insights from the therapy space into tools you can actually use at home in your family’s everyday life.
We look beneath the behavior. Rather than focusing only on what's happening on the surface, we work to understand the root of what's driving it. While our therapists are trained to assess and support all major mental health concerns, our aim is always to care for your child as a whole person, not a diagnosis.
We see children for 12-week series Instead of open-ended therapy with no clear finish line, we set meaningful goals over an initial three-month period. We can always extend if your child needs more time, but starting with a defined arc gives the work shape and direction.
THE ROOTED RHYTHM®CHILD THERAPY AND PARENT COACHING PROGRAM:
Parent orientation:
Once we've connected through a phone consultation, we'll schedule a 50-minute intake session. This is a chance for you as parents to meet your therapist, share your child's story, and get a feel for how we work. Some parents prefer to come to these first sessions on their own, and in situations of divorce or separation, we recommend each parent schedule their own 50-minute intake. We’ll walk you through the steps we recommended after we’ve had a free consultation.
Child therapy sessions:
Over the course of three months, your child will meet with their Rooted Rhythm® therapist for twelve weekly in-person sessions, each 50 minutes long. The final ten minutes of every session are set aside for a parent update and a moment of support for you as their caregiver.
Parenting support:
Throughout your child’s therapy experience, you have the chance to do your own growing as a caregiver. If you enroll in the TUNED IN parenting course, you can join optional 20-minute parent connection calls with our lead parent coach, Sophie Schauermann, LCSW. This is a dedicated space to ask questions and get support as you move through the program. When you'd like more individualized help, you can also add one-on-one parent coaching sessions as needed. Every family who works with us also receives lifetime access to the Tuned In Institute education portal, including our personal AI concierge, Remi.
Parent closing session:
Your family's process will wrap up with a final 50-minute session with your therapist. Together, we'll reflect on your child's growth, build a sustainable plan for what comes next, and celebrate how far you've come, both as individuals and as a whole family.
Ongoing support:
Once you're part of the Rooted Rhythm family, your story stays with us. Most families leave the program feeling settled and self-sufficient, but our door is always open. We love welcoming kids and parents back for "tune-up" therapy or parent coaching whenever it would help. Plus, you’re always invited to continue attending our weekly group parent coaching calls.
Teen Therapy in Centennial
We also welcome sensitive teenagers as they navigate self-esteem, identity, and their relationship with themselves and others. We specialize in supporting emotional teens who are working through self-esteem, identity development, peer relationships, and their connection to family.
With teens, our approach shifts a bit. We touch base with parents at the start, but from there we trust our teenagers to take the lead in their own therapeutic process. One thing we do ask: the teens who work with us need to be choosing therapy for themselves, not coming because someone else decided they should.
Families who work with us also receive lifetime access to the Tuned In Institute education portal, complete with our personal AI concierge, Remi. Inside, you'll find a 10-module course created specifically for parents of teenagers.
For Parents of Teenagers
Because teenagers are in such a different developmental stage, the way we work with them looks different, too. A few of the key distinctions to be aware of include:
Less parent involvement in therapy process
With teens, we meet with parents for a single session at the start of treatment. From there, we trust our teenagers to take the lead in their own work. Letting a teen have space with their therapist shows teens that we trust them, which is a crucial part of the therapeutic work.
That said, we often encourage teens to share their emotional needs more openly with their parents, and we invite parents into sessions when the timing feels right, allowing teens to initiate that involvement when they're ready. Our goal is to connect with parents for a brief 10-minute check-in at least every other week, always with their teen's permission.
Loosening the reins on a young teen can feel scary, we know. However, it's developmentally healthy for teens to be drawing some of these boundaries—it's how they build their own sense of identity and belonging. A strong bond with a therapist during this season helps ensure there's a safe, steady adult walking with them through it.
A consensual agreement
We specialize in supporting highly sensitive teens who often need help with self-esteem, identity development, sexuality, peer relationships, and a healthy connection to their family.
Please note that we do require the teens who work with us to choose therapy for themselves.
Parenting support
Parents of teens often benefit from the TUNED IN course to support their own growth while their pre-teen or teen works with our therapists. We're also glad to offer one-on-one parent coaching or individual adult therapy to support you through the challenging and rewarding work of raising a teenager. Plus, families who work with us receive lifetime access to the Tuned In Institute education portal, including our personal AI concierge, Remi.
Varying lengths of time in therapy
Treatment length varies more with our teenage clients than with the little ones we work with. We recommend starting with weekly therapy for at least eight weeks so your teen can build a genuine connection with their therapist. Many teens benefit from longer-term care after that initial period, which might look like weekly, biweekly, or eventually monthly sessions.
Adult Therapy in Colorado Springs
Our work with adults often weaves together traditional talk therapy, meditative practices, and experiential somatic techniques. We also offer cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)—a powerful approach for targeting and clearing specific traumas that may be feeding present-day anxieties.
Meet Our Centennial, CO Child Play Therapists
Irene Good, MA, MSW | Centennial, CO
Hi, I'm Irene. I work with children, teens, adults, and caregivers navigating anxiety, neurodivergent identity, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, and life's bigger transitions. I have a special place in my heart for supporting neurodivergent individuals and the families who love them, from children with learning or developmental differences to late-identified autistic and ADHD adults.
Drawing on a background in special education, applied behavior analysis, and family systems, I offer care that's both practical and deeply compassionate. I weave together solution-focused strategies, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and behavioral skills training, always keeping relational depth, autonomy, and your lived experience at the center of our work.
Above all, I meet people exactly where they are. My hope is to create a steady, collaborative space where you feel understood, validated, and empowered to show up as your full self—reconnecting with your strengths, your values, and the relationships that make meaningful change possible.
