As Rooted Rhythm's Clinical Director, I bring over a decade of experience supporting young children navigating ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and the caregiver-child relationship. I’m especially passionate about offering early intervention for young children (ages 2-10). I integrate developmentally-appropriate methods like Child-Centered Play Therapy, Synergetic and Play Therapy to meet your little one exactly where they are and help parents foster understanding for their child’s unique brain.

Elana Cohen, MSW, LCSW

I've spent over a decade helping children, teens, and families build functional skills that make family life with ADHD feel more manageable. My diverse clinical experience spans schools, outpatient clinics, wilderness therapy, and intensive outpatient programs, giving me a uniquely versatile toolkit for kids who haven't responded to one-size-fits-all approaches. The families I’ve supported tend to appreciate my holistic, strengths-based style and my ability to tailor support across very different presentations of ADHD.

  • Credentials: Licensed Clinical Social Worker CSW.09927360

  • Specialty Areas: ADHD, anxiety, trauma, family dynamics, highly sensitive children

Bari Agnes, MA, LPCC

I bring a rare depth of experience working with children navigating ADHD in some of the most intensive clinical settings, including Children's Hospital Colorado and Mount Saint Vincent. My grounding in non-directive play therapy means children feel free to lead, explore, and process at their own pace, which is especially powerful for kids who feel constantly redirected at school. I also bring direct school-based experience supporting children with ADHD, oppositional behaviors, and emotional regulation challenges.

  • Credentials: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

  • Specialty Areas: ADHD, behavioral challenges, trauma, emotional regulation

Lauren Whiteside, MA, MSW, LSW

Before becoming a therapist, I spent five years teaching neurodiverse and gifted children through the Reggio Emilia approach, an experience that deeply shapes how I understand ADHD. I view each child as capable, curious, and competent, even when their brains and behaviors may feel challenging to understand. This educator's lens means I truly know how ADHD shows up in classrooms, friendships, and family routines, and how to help kids feel empowered and supported across each.

  • Credentials: Clinical Social Work Candidate

Victoria Mancinelli, MSW

I've spent years working specifically with neuro- and cognitively-diverse children, supporting them with authenticity and true care. I have experience in both school and non-profit settings, so I deeply understand the real-world environments where ADHD often becomes the most visible and stressful for kids and parents. As a mother of two, I bring both lived parenting wisdom and clinical expertise into every session.

Common signs of ADHD in children & teens

Every child with ADHD is different, but here are some patterns parents often notice before reaching out:

  • Big emotional reactions that come on fast and feel disproportionate to what's happening

  • Difficulty shifting gears between activities, especially leaving something fun or starting something hard

  • Bouncing between high energy and zoned-out daydreaming, sometimes within the same hour

  • Trouble following multi-step directions, even ones that have been given many times before

  • Bedtime battles and a brain that won't quiet down at night

  • Forgotten homework, lost water bottles, and giving constant reminders

  • Social struggles, including missing cues, talking over peers, or feeling left out

  • Meltdowns at home after holding it together all day at school

If a few of these feel familiar, you are exactly the kind of family our team supports every day. Connect with us to see how we can help.

What sets our practice apart from other Denver ADHD treatment therapy providers

  • A unique 12-session child therapy model with deep parent involvement, so changes actually take root at home

  • Specialty in highly sensitive and neurodivergent children, including kids whose ADHD often overlaps with high sensitivity

  • Free access to our TUNED IN Parenting course for every client family, so you have practical tools between sessions

  • Insurance accepted, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Medicaid, to make getting quality support as accessible as possible

  • Warm, thoughtfully designed play therapy spaces created to help dysregulated nervous systems settle

  • A collaborative team of clinicians with ongoing internal training, so your therapist is supported, too

  • No waitlist, so you can begin the moment you're ready

When parents understand the "why" behind their child's behavior, the whole family system begins to shift. We’d be honored to help you get there.

What to expect from the therapy process

Step 1: A free consultation call

We start with a no-pressure call to hear about what's going on, share a little about how we work, and help you decide if we're the right fit. There's no obligation to move forward.

Step 2: Intake & getting to know your child

Your child's first sessions are about building trust. We also meet with parents early on to understand your family's full story and set goals together.

Step 3: Ongoing therapy with built-in parent support

From there, we weave together play-based child sessions, parent coaching, and access to our TUNED IN course, so progress can happen both inside and outside of the therapy room.

FAQs about ADHD therapy

  • There's not just one best type of therapist for ADHD. Each person’s brain, needs, and goals are unique, and different clinicians can offer different support, so it’s all about finding the right fit.

At Rooted Rhythm, we see ADHD as a valid brain difference that brings its own special strengths and challenges for each child and their loved ones. From our perspective, it’s not a problem to be fixed, so our approach focuses on helping children express themselves and teaching caregivers how to support their little one (and themselves!) in a way that works for the whole family.

  • Therapy helps your child build emotional regulation, self-awareness, and confidence in their own brain, while giving you the tools and language to support them at home. Through play, connection, and parent collaboration, we help families move out of constant management mode and into more ease, understanding, and connection.

  • No, we do not offer formal psychological assessments for ADHD. Our clinical intake process is thorough and can help us understand your child’s emotional and behavioral patterns, but if you’re seeking formal psychological testing or a comprehensive ADHD evaluation, we can offer referrals to trusted partners in the Denver area.

  • No, we don't prescribe medication, as our team is focused on therapy and parent coaching. If medication is something you're exploring, we're happy to refer you to trusted prescribers in the Denver area and collaborate alongside them.

  • Our specialty is children and families. Most of our Denver clinicians work primarily with kids ages 2 through 12, with several who also support teens. Parent coaching is also woven into our work. While some of our clinicians work with adults, our primary focus is on little ones and their caregivers.

  • No, you don't need a formal diagnosis to get started with us. While diagnoses can be a helpful framework to begin understanding yourself or your child, they don’t hold the full picture. Our focus is on understanding your child’s unique nervous system.

With that said, if you plan to use insurance to pay for therapy, a clinical diagnosis is typically required for billing. Please contact our office if you have questions about what this looks like.

  • Yes, ADHD treatment is typically covered by insurance. We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Medicaid in Colorado. If you have a different plan, you may be able to use out-of-network benefits to get partial reimbursement. We also have private pay options available.
